Join the Common Good Missoula Core Team to represent
Families for a Livable Climate
Hello Families!
My name is Tassia. I am a daughter, a sister, an auntie, and I work as a pediatric psychiatric nurse in Missoula Montana. I am also a leader and an organizer. I joined Families for a Livable Climate to build community that talks about climate in a hopeful, inclusive, and constructive way, because that is the Missoula that I grew up knowing.
As a member of FLC; I, along with a few dozen of you, attended the founding of Common Good Missoula in May of 2019. Since the founding I have volunteered to represent FLC on the Strategy Team for CGM. I’ve had a front row seat to the launching of a Missoula style IAF Affiliate. The Industrial Areas Foundation’s version of broad based organizing has been making its way across the US and neighboring nations since the early 1920s. Please read more about their history here.
Through the partnership with CGM members of our organization have received access to weekend and week long trainings on effective leadership techniques and skills (ask me about Power Mapping, I love it). These are skills we can use in our everyday lives as effective community members, and we can also use to forward our FLC Working Groups. Check out the latest local Leadership Training event. There’s a week long one in Denver this July, 2024 too!
As an activist since birth (thank you mom), I have spent the last 40 years managing the ebb and flow of what activists means in my life, and I can tell you; it’s a relay race, not a sprint. Our membership to CGM connects us to a larger network of communities and organizations in Missoula, but we also have IAF Affiliates all across the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand who are all working together within their organizations (unions, churches, non-profits, and civic service sector organizations) to promote a healthy planet.
Just like FLC has Working Groups, CGM has Core Teams. Members of FLC who would like to join me in forming a Core Team to represent FLC would be agreeing to respond to a tiered variety of opportunities. You could participate in creating and/or researching, building, or promoting the projects that CGM is working on. Follow this link for more informations about one of their current projects; Neighborways Project.
Or learn how you can represent FLC on the Zoning Housing Action Research Team to help Missoula develop the Future Land Use Planning Map; a map that would legally bind developers to building what the community as a whole wants and needs.
As a FLC member you are invited to attend the CGM Delegate’s Assemblies which occurs biannually. Naturally, as CGM is an organization of organizations; the Delegate’s Assembly is a bit of housekeeping business, but it can also be an opportunity to vote or promote new projects, or celebrate others. Sometimes it’s a chance to make public commitments with city representatives, or whose running for office. If you are a part of the FLC Core Team you could be there, and you might also choose to hand out voting cards, stack chairs, or greet people at the door.
I hope to start building a Core Team for the June 13th Delegates Assembly, a party at Rail link Park for the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the pilot street for the Neighborways campaign. If you want to learn more, or join the FLC Working Group/CGM Core Team be in touch at commongood@livableclimate.org
Yours, in solidarity,
Tassia Tkatschenko
