Passing the Baton

Dear Friends,

Today, with a big mix of emotions, I am writing to share that I am stepping down as executive director of Families for a Livable Climate as of June 28. Over the last year, my own family’s needs have shifted significantly and, for now, I need to move to a different role in this work. This summer I will support our new executive director to transition into this position, and in the fall, I will join our Board of Directors. If you’re interested in this position, please apply!

Being part of Families for a Livable Climate has truly been an honor for me. Over five years, I've been amazed by our volunteers, staff, supporters, and allies, and what we've achieved together. From launching The Changing Times magazine to organizing Montana's first Climate Advocacy Day and helping families divest $10 million from fossil fuels, each accomplishment fills me with immense pride. But it's the connections we've made with thousands of Montanans and the emergence of new leaders that truly touch my heart. Our commitment to building these meaningful relationships is what makes our work so special and fulfilling.

When I speak to overwhelmed parents and caregivers about the climate crisis and joining the movement, I stress that we're not looking for heroes. Instead, we're weaving a tapestry of change together as a community. All it takes is for each of us to grab a thread and run alongside our neighbors, weaving our new world together. The broader our network, the stronger we become. We can step forward feeling supported and pass the thread to someone else when life gets hectic.

As I grab a new thread in our collective tapestry of change, I'll keep running alongside you all with love and hope for our future, fueling every step. Keep going, my friends, in your own way, and I'll be right there with you in action soon.

With deep gratitude,
Winona Bateman
