Be Fantastic, help Missoula ditch plastic!

VOLUNTEER TO HELP THE MT PLASTIC FREE MISSOULA BALLOT INITIATIVE

Montana Plastic Free is a group of Montana citizens who are concerned about the health and environmental impacts of plastics. They are working to put single-use plastics regulations on ballots across the state. Currently there are active citizens' initiative efforts taking place in Missoula and Bozeman.

MT Plastic Free Missoula is collecting signatures to get an ordinance on the November ballot regulating single-use plastics in the City of Missoula. If citizens vote to adopt the ordinance it will ban single-use plastic carryout bags and polystyrene products such as food/beverage containers and packing peanuts at all retail stores and in government facilities and events, and will require food vendors to provide plastic straws and stirrers only on request.

Read the full proposed ordinance here.

We need volunteers to help collect 9,300 signatures, and you can help! Sign up to volunteer below!

7/22/24 - Families for a Livable Climate, St. Providence Patrick Hospital and MT Plastic Free Missoula will host a free screening of Plastic People: The Hidden Crisis of Microplastics on Monday, July 22 at the Missoula Public Library, Cooper Rooms A & B. (Admission is first come first served), doors open at 5pm and the film starts at 5:30pm, Q & A after the screening. The ground-breaking feature documentary Plastic People investigates our addiction to plastic and the growing threat of microplastics on human health. Almost every bit of plastic ever made breaks down into “microplastics.” These microscopic particles drift in the air, float in all bodies of water, and mix into the soil, becoming a permanent part of the environment. Now, leading scientists are finding these particles in our bodies: organs, blood, brain tissue, and even the placentas of new mothers. What is the impact of these invisible invaders on our health? And can anything be done about it? Acclaimed author and science journalist Ziya Tong takes a personal approach by visiting leading scientists around the world and undergoing experiments in her home, on her food, and her body while collaborating with award-winning director Ben Addelman in an urgent call to action for all of us to rethink our relationship with plastic.
