Families for a Livable Climate is an engaged member of Common Good Missoula.
Common Good Missoula has been invited to do groundbreaking work for ordinary people to influence the future of our City through the Growth Policy and Code Reform process. For many years into the future, these documents will shape new construction, housing developments, street safety, energy efficiency, access to community resources, and more. In this process, we (including YOU) can build relationships with City staff and elected officials that are in some ways unprecedented—we have been invited to collaborate because they know they need our voices. They need diverse, inclusive, and robust citizen engagement, and they know that many voices have not been heard. At the same time, we get to retain full independence and ability to push back on things that don’t work for us. That’s unusual and fantastic!
At the Event
Civic Academies are for learning from other leaders about issues that affect us, and how to impact them. At this Civic Academy, we will hear from CGM leaders and from supportive voices of power in the City of Missoula. They’ll hear our stories, and we’ll hear their invitation to help with their two-year process, called “Our Missoula.” That process will update Missoula City codes (i.e. regulations) related to housing, development, streets, and land use. We'll also get to ask specific questions and use our voices at tables focused on sub-topics.
Game Changer
This is a chance to lay the groundwork for dozens of effective future actions on housing, climate, justice, and other issues we care deeply about. With our input, code reform can give Missoula’s City Council and staff the tools and community support they need to stand up to special interests for decades to come.
